This is a slightly longer, multi-section prelude. A quiet introduction, based on the first few notes of the tune, leads to the tune's first full statement -- a simple treatment in trio style. A brief interlude, based on the introduction, leads to a short fugue. The fugue builds to another transition (subtly referencing the tune 'Were You There') leading to the final statement of the tune. This statement includes two phrases with the tune in the pedal (the pedal trombone supporting the manual principal chorus), and builds to the climactic third phrase, with the tune in the soprano, supported by descending chromatic lines in the lower manual parts, all over a Franckian, mediant pedal point. Tension is quickly dissipated, and the work concludes with a return to the serenity of the opening.
